Lake Manyara National Park

A park of extraordinary ecological diversity packed into 325 square kilometres. Forest elephants, tree-climbing lions, half a million flamingos, and the shimmering alkaline lake against a towering escarpment wall.

Arusha National Park

A pristine wilderness sitting on Arusha's doorstep — giraffe, zebra, buffalo and flamingo within 30 minutes of your hotel, with Mount Meru towering above it all. The Northern Circuit's most underestimated park.

Ngorongoro Crater

Descend into the world's largest intact volcanic caldera — a self-contained wildlife sanctuary holding one of Africa's densest concentrations of animals. A place unlike anywhere else on the continent.

Tarangire National Park

Ancient baobab forests, thousandsof elephants, and some of Tanzania's richest dry-season game viewing. Tarangire is the Northern Circuit's best-kept secret — and one of our personal favourites.

Serengeti National Park

Step into a living theater of ancient migration, predatory pursuit, and infinite golden horizons. We design private, unhurried expeditions deep into the heartbeat of Tanzania's crown jewel.

Mkomazi National Park

Rugged rhino sanctuaries, thousands of birds, and some of Tanzania's rawest wilderness game viewing. Mkomazi is the Northern Circuit's best-kept secret — and one of our personal favourites

Eyasi Directory

Your Lake Eyasi Questions Answered

Lake Eyasi’s appeal lies less in a single landscape than in four distinct experiences, each offering a different window into the region’s people and terrain.

SOUTHERN TANZANIA

Ruaha National Park

Tanzania's largest national park at 20,226 km² — vast elephant herds, wild dog packs, and a genuine sense of wilderness untouched by mass tourism. The Great Ruaha River is the dry-season focal point for extraordinary game viewing.

SOUTHERN TANZANIA

Nyerere National Park

Formerly Selous Game Reserve — one of Africa's largest protected ecosystems. Famous for boat safaris on the Rufiji River, walking safaris, and the highest wild dog density on the continent.

SOUTHERN TANZANIA

Mikumi National Park

The most accessible Southern park from Dar es Salaam — a classic savanna park with reliable lion, elephant and buffalo viewing. An excellent add-on for guests arriving or departing via Dar.

SOUTHERN TANZANIA

Udzungwa Mountains

An absolute paradise for hikers and birdwatchers. Known as the 'Galapagos of Africa', this ancient rainforest hosts endemic primates, stunning waterfalls, and rich biodiversity far removed from standard driving safaris.

WESTERN TANZANIA

Katavi National Park

A raw, isolated floodplain ecosystem offering a true glimpse of untamed Africa. Dry seasons draw massive pods of thousands of hippos alongside immense herds of cape buffalo battling for shrinking river channels.

WESTERN TANZANIA

Mahale Mountains

Where dramatic jungle slopes plunge directly into the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. Home to the world's most intimate wild chimpanzee tracking experiences set against absolute luxury isolation.

How to Plan Your Visit

Designing the Right Tanzania Itinerary

01

Decide your priority experience

Migration, Big Five, elephants, birds, walking safaris or canoe safaris — each priority points toward a different park and season. Be specific about what you most want to witness rather than trying to see everything.

02

Fix your dates around the season

The single biggest mistake travellers make is choosing dates for flight cost reasons then trying to retrofit a safari around them. The season determines what you can realistically see. Choose your parks first, then book flights around the optimal window.

03

Allocate enough nights per park

A single day in Tarangire barely touches the surface. The Serengeti deserves a minimum of three nights. Rushing between parks in a single day is the most common regret of first-time safari visitors. We recommend at least two nights minimum at each major park.

04

Choose your accommodation tier early

The finest mobile camps and crater-rim lodges book out 6–9 months in advance for peak season. Your accommodation tier also determines which concession areas and activities you can access — private concessions unlock walking and night safaris unavailable in public zones.

05

Work with a local operator directly

Booking through an overseas agent adds margin at every layer. Working directly with a Marangu-based operator like Komteshane means real-time local knowledge, direct pricing, and a team who knows your itinerary personally and can respond to anything in the same time zone.
