This 2-day safari packs two of Northern Tanzania’s most iconic experiences into a single, efficient itinerary: an afternoon tracking Lake Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions and flamingo flocks, followed by a full day inside the Ngorongoro Crater — the most reliable place on Earth to see the Big Five in a single game drive.
It’s an ideal standalone short break for travelers on a tighter schedule, or a perfect add-on before or after a longer Serengeti safari or a Kilimanjaro climb.
A globally unique wildlife behaviour — Manyara’s lions regularly rest in the branches of yellow fever acacia trees. Your guide knows their favourite trees and the best time of day to find them.
Lake Manyara’s alkaline shoreline attracts flamingo flocks that can number up to 500,000 — turning the lake’s surface completely pink in peak season.
The groundwater forest in Manyara’s northern zone shelters forest elephants at eye level from your vehicle, plus large troops of olive baboon and black-and-white colobus monkey in the canopy.
Africa’s most reliable Big Five destination — lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and the critically endangered black rhino all live permanently in the crater’s 260 km² caldera.
Park fees, conservation levies, fuel, guide, and all meals are included. No gate surprises.
Departing early from your base, enjoy a scenic drive to Lake Manyara National Park. Traverse the lush groundwater forest home to baboons and blue monkeys, before opening up to the expansive lake shores where vast flocks of flamingos gather. Keep an eye on the acacia canopies for Manyara's famous tree-climbing lions during your game drive.
Descend into the breathtaking 600-metre-deep Ngorongoro Crater caldera for an immersive day of wildlife tracking. This is your best opportunity to see the complete Big Five in a single day, including the endangered black rhino. Following a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, ascend the crater walls and begin your return journey back to Arusha or Moshi.
